Fracking Big Ben: science, policy and fractivism in the UK | Making Social Knowledge

Commercial fracking has not yet started in England. In the past few years, however, the government has issued exploratory permits in various sites around the country and energy companies are readying themselves to drill (some already have). This brief article sets out our research agenda for our five-year SSHRC-funded project, which attends to the scientific, legal and regulatory evidentiary regimes surrounding fracking in the UK. This article appeared in a special issue of Practicing Anthropology that features many interesting pieces on the anthropology of energy and resource extraction.
